About Me
Amy Swart
MSW, LICSW, PMH-C
I have been providing therapy services since 2011 and love what I do. Therapy provides an opportunity to work through hard things in the comfort and safety of my office. I’m here for you, without judgment.
As a therapist, I show up as my true self—who you see in session is who I am in the other areas of my life. In the same way, you can be real with me and lay it out there, no matter what it is, and we will work through it together. I love to find humor when we can and am not afraid of tears (yours or mine)!
I will help you reflect and gain insight, while also teaching you practical coping strategies so you leave my office with a plan for tackling whatever the issue may be.
We'll do this together
One of my specialties is working with pregnant and postpartum mothers and their families. From trying to get pregnant, pregnancy, birth, new motherhood, and beyond, the transitions and emotional impacts can be intense. I have three children of my own and know firsthand the ups and downs of motherhood, including my own experience with postpartum anxiety.
I also have extensive experience in helping people overcome past traumatic incidents in a way that brings relief and promotes healing. Trauma is an injury to your nervous system that needs attention, just like any other injury. You can get to a point where you are in control of your memories, not them in control of you and wreaking havoc in your life.
I have my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) and am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the state of Minnesota. In addition, I am a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International. I have advanced training in multiple therapies that I employ to meet the unique needs of each person, often utilizing EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused modalities.
Other areas of expertise include:
- Depression and sadness that just won’t lift
- Anxiousness and worries that just won’t relent
- Grief and loss
- Feeling overwhelmed
- Judging yourself
- Difficulty asking for what you want and need
- Feeling ineffective and unheard in personal and professional relationships
- Pressure to be Superwoman and “do it all”
- Wanting to be mindful and fully present in your life
You are worth it!
